Ohio Man Arrested in First Menlo Park Homicide Since 2012

A woman was found dead late Wednesday, and a suspect was in custody following the first homicide in Menlo Park in six years, police said.

Someone called 911 at 5:34 p.m. to report that someone was dead in a home in the 900 block of Valparaiso Avenue.

Police went to the home and found an unresponsive woman who was pronounced dead a short time later. The victim was killed with a stabbing instrument that was not a knife, according to Menlo Park police.

The suspect has been identified as Francis Wolke, a 36-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio. He has a prior address in San Francisco from 2014, police said.

People who live in the neighborhood say it comes as a shock since nothing ever happens in that area. There hasn't been a homicide in the area since 2012, according to the city's crime statistics.

Detectives are currently at the home conducting an investigation with the help of the San Mateo County crime lab and county prosecutors.

Police said no threat to the public exists.

Wolk has been booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of First Degree Murder.

Anyone who has information about the possible killing is asked to call police at (650) 330-6300 or the anonymous tip line at (650) 330-6395.
