Woman Killed by Stray Bullet Monday Identified

A woman who died after she was struck by a stray bullet in East Oakland early Monday morning was identified by police on Tuesday at 44-year-old Martha Casiano Ventura of Oakland.

Officers found Casiano Ventura with a gunshot wound when they responded to a shooting in a residential neighborhood in the 2100 block of East 22nd Street at 12:53 a.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later, police said.

A GoFundMe website attempting to raise $10,000 for Casiano Ventura's family had reached that goal as of Tuesday afternoon.

The website identifies her as Dona Martha Casiano and describes her as an "amazing woman, a mother of five, a business woman, and a community member here in East Oakland."
