Woman Murdered Near Oakland's Lake Merritt Suffered Apparent Head Trauma

A woman who was murdered near Oakland's Lake Merritt Saturday morning suffered apparent head trauma, police said.

Oakland police received a 911 call from a citizen reporting that a female victim was lying in the 1900 block of Third Avenue near Park Boulevard at about 6:40 a.m.

Arriving OPD officers and emergency crews found the woman suffering from apparent head injuries, police said.

Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was unresponsive and was declared deceased at the scene, according to police.

Oakland police Officer K. Templeman said he did not know how the woman was killed.

No arrests have been made and an investigation into the homicide is ongoing, Templeman said.

This is Oakland's 26th homicide of 2014.
