Public safety officials in Sunnyvale are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman early Thursday morning near a Caltrain Station, the officials said Friday.

A woman was walking in the area of Willow and Aster avenues just south of the Lawrence Caltrain Station at about 6 a.m. when a man approached her from behind and began groping her, according to safety officials.

A passerby interrupted the assault and the suspect ran west on Aster. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build and was wearing a maroon jacket.

Safety officials are asking anyone with any information or surveillance footage to contact Detective Clyde Cheng at (408) 730-7712 or ccheng@sunnyvale.gov.
