Woman Shot, Killed in Downtown San Jose

Victim is 19-year-old Kimberly Joyce Chico

Police in San Jose are investigating the city's 30th homicide of the year.

Police said Kimberly Joyce Chico, 19, was shot and killed while sitting in the passenger seat of a car driving in downtown San Jose.

The shooting happened at South Second and East San Salvador streets around 1:20 a.m. 

Sgt. Jason Dwyer said the victim was transported to Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed that the victim and a 21-year-old man were driving downtown when the victim was shot by someone outside the car.

The driver, who was not hit, drove about a block and then stopped the car and called 911.

Dwyer said that no suspects have yet been identified or arrested.

Police said they do not have a motive.

No one else was injured in the shooting.
