A Capitol Corridor train struck and killed a pedestrian in Richmond on Tuesday afternoon, according to a Richmond police spokesman.
The victim, a woman, was walking across the tracks on Cutting Boulevard near Carlson Boulevard at about 1:50 p.m. when she was hit by a four-car train that was traveling at about 70 mph, Richmond police spokesman Lt. Felix Tan said.
Witnesses said it appeared that she didn't see the train or know that it was approaching as she crossed the tracks, Tan said.
All of the crossing barriers and lights in the area appeared to be working, he said.
The train was carrying 68 passengers from San Jose to Sacramento when it hit the woman, who has not yet been identified, Tan said.
Several trains traveling through the area have been delayed because of the investigation, according to Capitol Corridor's Twitter account.
