Young Woman Killed by Suspected Drag Racers in San Jose Honored

Dozens of people came together Sunday to remember a young woman killed by suspected drag racers and to spread a new message.

At Hellyer Park, they released balloons to honor Kiran Pabla. The 24-year-old was out for a jog near her San Jose home in January when two suspected street racers hit and killed her.

On Sunday, people walked to raise money in Kiran's name to give to children in need in India. But Kiran's family said the event also has another purpose.

Kiran's friends and family raised more than $9,000 for Home of Hope in Kiran's memory. Her family said Kiran always gave back to her family and united them.

Two San Jose men have been charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with Kiran's death.

Kiran's aunt said she hopes the men will receive the maximum sentence to send a strong message to street racers and to possibly prevent other tragedies.
