Accused “Craigslist Robber” Arrested

Oakland police say DNA evidence has led to an arrest of a suspect they had dubbed the "Craigslist robber."

Thirty-four-year-old Damien Bell is being held without bail after police say his DNA was recovered from a watch he lost in a scuffle with one of his alleged victims.

Bell has been charged with two counts of armed robbery in connection with two incidents in Oakland where people were lured to a location by what turned out to be a bogus car ad placed on Craigslist.

Investigators say he is also considered the prime suspect in several other similar robberies in Oakland, Piedmont and Orinda between early April and May 5.

Because Bell has two prior robbery convictions, authorities say if he's convicted he could be sentenced to a life sentence under the state's Three Strikes Law.
