Parents in East San Jose are being urged not to overreact to news a student in the Alum Rock school district has been diagnosed with scarlet fever.
Administrators at Adelante Dual Immersion Academy sent notes home to parents, informing them.
Scarlet fever is a contagious infection which was much more serious before antibiotics came into general use.

Experts say it's really just a strep throat -- unless a patient also develops a rash. That's when it becomes scarlet fever.
