Airbnb Sponsors SF Gay Pride

Online hotelier Airbnb offers to pony up for Pride

This year's Pride parade is brought to you by Airbnb.

The online accomodation reservation service has signed on to be a sponsor of the Pride celebration and parade this year, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

Airbnb is the Grand Sponsor, and as such, the San Francjsco-based company will dole out some cash and also provide volunteers -- thereby perhaps winning some goodwill from the city that's trying to regulate it.

Airbnb's service -- providing short-term rentals for guests, often in rent-controlled housing -- is illegal under city law, according to officials like Board of Supervisors president David Chiu, who has proposed reform that would see Airbnb hosts pay the city's 17 percent hotel tax.

San Francisco's pride is the "largest LGBT festival in the nation," the newspaper reported.
