Police Investigate Threat to Middle School Reportedly Made on Social Media

Alameda police are investigating a report of a threat posted to a social media platform targeting a middle school in Alameda Monday.

According to school officials, Lincoln Middle School families contacted the school’s principal to report a disturbing message posted to Snapchat that multiple students were forwarding.

In the message, there is a reference to an Instagram post suggesting that someone was threatening a school, the school's principal, Michael Hans, said.

He added Lincoln Middle School was not referenced in the Instagram post and that this point no one can verify that the video even existed.

Alameda police have not confirmed the threat. Lt. Hosh Durani of APD said a student heard about the threat and is sharing the message with other students.

APD was contacted immediately and set up patrol cars at the school out of an abundance of caution and an officer will remain on campus throughout the day, Hans said. School administration is working closely with APD to determine if the video even exists, he said.

"We encourage families and students to report any information to APD so we can all work together to ensure the safety of the campus,' Hans said. "If you or your child has actually seen any video, please share that with APD immediately."
