Apple Working on Universal SIM Card

Apple likes to cut out the middle man and run things themselves. When it comes to the iPhone this idea is no different.

Bloomberg is reporting today that sources at Apple say the company is working on a Universal SIM card, which would allow users to choose what network they want to use, without having to deal with a wireless company. This would also help cut down the cost of distribution and cut out fees such as early termination penalties.

Will the wireless companies go for this? If anyone can make it happen, Apple can.

The iPhone 5 will most likely be smaller and cheaper, and will probably be announced mid-year, but one source who is said to have seen the device, noted that often Apple works on things that never see the light of day.
