Police on Wednesday arrested a suspect they believe is connected to three attempted sexual assaults over the past month at a popular Alameda beach, East Bay Regional Park District police said.
Undercover officers with the park district police were conducting surveillance near Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach when they received a call notifying them the Alameda Police Department had arrested a suspect who matched the description of the man wanted in the three attacks, police said.
The latest attack was reported on Tuesday. Two previous incidents occurred in the same area on Saturday and on Aug. 6, and investigators believed the three are connected to the same suspect, according to police.
All three of the attacks targeted women who were alone, and happened before noon, according to police, and the suspect descriptions were similar: a black man, 20-25 years old, about 5 feet, six inches tall, with a thin build.
Although an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information about the cases should call the regional park police tip line at (510) 690-6549.
