Two of the three children who were injured by gunfire in Oakland on Saturday afternoon have been released from the hospital and the third was expected to be released today, according to Oakland police Sgt. Richard Vierra.
Vierra said a 1-year-old girl suffered a shot that went through her leg in the incident in the 6400 block of International Boulevard about 2:15 p.m. Saturday but she has been treated and released.
A 14-year-old boy also has been treated and released.
Vierra said a 4-year-old girl was shot in the chest and required surgery but was expected to be released from the hospital today.
Witnesses told police the children were caught in gunfire meant for a group of young men nearby but investigators are still confirming that information.
Police don't have detailed information on the suspects in the shooting incident, according to Vierra.
In addition to the three children who were injured, two other people suffered injuries caused by glass shattering when bullets struck their vehicles.
