A station agent was injured when a man punched the worker in the face at the MacArthur BART Station late Friday night, according to BART police.
At 11:47 p.m., two women called the agent over to report a man who was harassing them outside the station. As the agent approached, the suspect came up behind him and punched him, officers said.
The agent suffered a one and a half inch laceration on his right cheek. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officers searched the area but did not find the suspect. They have requested video evidence from the station and checked surrounding buildings for additional video.
The latest incident comes about six weeks after 18-year-old Nia Wilson and her sister were randomly stabbed at the station. Wilson was killed in the attack while were sister was injured. Nearly two weeks later, two men were treated for non-life threatening injuries following a stabbing at the same station.
BART's general manager is calling on the board of directors to approve a $28 million security plan, which could add emergency call boxes, enhance surveillance cameras and increase the presence of police officers, among other items.
BART police temporarily canceled off days for all of its officers following incidents at the MacArthur station but have since ended the change, making the overtime voluntary.
