BART Service Between Fremont, South Hayward Stations Remain Shut Down

Service between Fremont and South Hayward BART stations remains shut down Wednesday morning due to an investigation of a fatal incident from late Tuesday night, BART officials said Wednesday.

A train heading for Richmond hit a person who was on the tracks just south of the South Hayward station at about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, spokesman Jim Allison said.

The person was confirmed dead at the scene. It is unknown what the person was doing on the tracks at the time of the incident, according to Allison.

Service between South Hayward and Fremont stations has been shut down due to the incident. Service is expected to be shut down until at least 7:30 a.m., Allison said.

The riders on the train involved in the incident were transferred to another train.

Riders should seek alternate transportation in the area.

An unrelated issue has caused delays between the Hayward and Bay Fair stations this morning. Allison said riders should use Bay Fair station when heading out for their morning commute during the investigation.
