BART Transbay Service Resumes For Commuters

Regular BART service resumed Monday morning for all commuters.

Throughout the weekend, BART riders had to take a shuttle into and out of the East Bay due to the Transbay Tube closure

Repair and maintenance work have been moving smoothly, BART officials said.

About 90 people worked on the tracks over the weekend, BART spokesman Jim Allison said. Workers replaced aging crossover tracks and worn railing. Allison said the project was worth two million dollars.

Because of the closure, ferry ridership increased over the weekend. San Francisco ferry officials told NBC Bay Area that ridership is up by 24 percent from a regular weekend between Okaland, Alameda and San Francisco. There is also a 6 percent increase between Vallejo and San Francisco.

For commuters not using the ferry, shuttle buses were set up by BART around 20th and Broadway in Oakland, moving people in and out of the city.

However the work is not complete. Another Transbay Closure will take place over the Labor Day weekend.
