A San Francisco donation drive seeks winter supplies for protesters fighting the Dakota Access pipeline at Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
Supplies like winter tents, camping gear, sleeping bags, boots, gloves and hats are most requested for the drive, which takes place on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Papalote, located at 3409 24th Street in San Francisco. No other items will be accepted.
"The energy and unity was thick and tangible," Papalote owner Miguel Escobedo, who drove to North Dakota on Election Day with fellow activist Jacob Braden to drop off emergency supplies, told NBC Bay Area. "The sense of unity and purpose was clear. It was beautiful meeting Earth's soldiers."
The camp is quickly heading into winter weather, with highs in the upper 30s expected this week.
"I found out firsthand that these are the only items needed now, as well as non perishable food, but this [drive] will be focused on just winter items," Escobedo said.
Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
