Spending hours upon hours on the fire lines or knocking on doors to alert residents about evacuations, first responders representing several Bay Area agencies have joined in the fight against wildfires tearing across Northern California.
San Francisco officers provided traffic breaks to help safely corral horses endangered by the blazes. Alameda County firefighters, working for as long as 48 hours straight, were in "good spirits" as they continued to battle the wind-whipped flames. Panting and meandering under the cloak of darkness, California Highway Patrol officers carried calves to safety.
The actions of those behind the badge earned stamps of approval and gratitude from those impacted. "You are super brave!" was just one of the messages received by one Bay Area agency working the fire lines.
