As wind and rain hit the Bay Area, and a possibly historic blizzard is set to rip across the East Coast, flights on Friday were canceled and delayed at San Francisco International Airport.
Nearly 230 flights were canceled at SFO as of 11 a.m., and the average flight delay, was more than three hours, according to FlightStats.com.
"I want to go home," Eileen Barbash said, stuck at SFO during a long trip from New Zealand to the snow-bogged Philadelphia airport. "My bed beckons."
Nationwide, more than 3,800 flights were canceled, with the Charlotte Douglas International Airport topping the list of cancellations with 1,400. Ronald Reagon National Airport had the second-most cancellations, and Washington Dulles International Aiport had the third most.
A handful of flights were cancelled out of Oakland International Airport. San Jose International Airport reported no cancellations.
Most of the nixed flights were to the snow-socked cities of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Newark, New Jersey. Airport officials urged passengers to call their airlines before heading out.
The top 10 airports reporting flight cancellations Friday include two in North Carolina, three in the Washington, D.C. area, Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, New York and Boston, according to FlightAware.

Some Amtrak trains to and from the East Coast have been canceled or their routes shortened, including trains between New York and Miami, Chicago and New York or Washington, D.C., and others. Amtrak advises that passengers check the schedule to see if their trip had been canceled; refund information is available here or by calling 800-USA-RAIL.
