Bay Area Music Demands Outlandish Prices

Sure, the Bay Area is in the middle of another tech bubble of lavishness, but are rich fans willing to dish out $5,000 for concert tickets and $500 for gold CDs?

Stevie Wonder's hotly anticipated Songs in the Key of Life Oakland concert at Oracle Arena on Dec. 5 doesn't officially go on sale through Live Nation until Sept. 29, but tickets to his show already top $5,000 on third-party site ticketsnow.com. If people can wait a few days, they'll have a crack at the same seats for under $200.

Meanwhile on eBay, a 24-karat gold CD of Journey's Infinity album is being listed for more than $500.

This has long been a region that pours money into loving and consuming music, but there comes a point when fans must stop fueling this sort of ridiculousness before the window of access closes to all but the monied.
