An annual summit bringing together the Bay Area's top business executives and elected leaders took place Tuesday in San Francisco.
The 2025 Bay Area-Silicon Valley Summit featured the mayors of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. California Gov. Gavin Newsom also took part in the event and had plenty to discuss about issues impacting the state on both the local and federal levels.

The mayors of San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland took part in a roundtable discussion focusing on the impact of homelessness in their cities.
"I don't want people dealing drugs on the streets," San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said. "Don't want people sleeping on the streets."
Newsom also had something to say about the topic during his portion of the summit.
"We need to see results," Newsom said. "We need accountability."

The governor called on cities to ban homeless encampments and also announced billions of dollars in state funding to help unhoused individuals.
"I have zero interest. I have 18 months left. I'm not going to fund failure anymore," Newsom said.

The governor also talked about the impacts on businesses, resulting from tariffs being placed on goods by the Trump administration.
While Newsom has not made any official announcement, he has long been rumored for a possible presidential run in 2028.
If that is the case, the governor made it clear his own party needs to work on its messaging.
"We need to get out of our own damn bubble and with respect get out of our own way," Newsom said. "Have some humility in what went right or wrong."
