Bay Area to Commemorate Anniversary of Sept. 11

Here is a list of events scheduled throughout the Bay Area Friday to commemorate the anniversary of September 11:

SAN JOSE: Volunteers will meet at San Jose City Hall (200 E. Santa Clara St.) prior to a national day of service to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Mayor Sam Liccardo will kick off the rally prior to volunteers departing for service projects at eight South Bay non-profit organizations.

UNION CITY: A ceremonial event honoring the fallen heroes of United Airlines Flight 93 will take place at the Flight 93 Memorial at 10 a.m. The memorial is located at the corner of Alvarado-Niles Road and Dyer Street.

SAN FRANCISCO: A Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony is scheduled at all 44 fire station in the city beginning at 6:45 a.m. Visit the San Francisco Fire Department's website for a list of station locations.

SAN MATEO: The San Mateo Police Department's Honor Guard will lower the flag to half-staff and observe a moment of silence in remembrance of those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. SMPD personnel will travel to San Mateo Fire Station 21 for an 8:47 a.m. memorial ceremony, wreath presentation and bell-ringing. Fire Station 21 is located at 120 S. Ellsworth Ave.

TRI-VALLEY: The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department will have a memorial ceremony at Fire Station 1, 3560 Nevada St. in Pleasanton.

MARTINEZ: A flag-raising ceremony by the Martinez Police Department honor guard to recognize the emergency responders and civilians who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will be held at the Amtrak station, 601 Marina Vista Ave.
