Weekend Temps on the Rise

It's going to be a hot and potentially dangerous weekend in terms of fire danger.

Expect temps to climb another 5-10 degrees over Friday’s highs with 70s and 80s around San Francisco, Oakland and the rest of the inner bay and mid to upper 90s possible for areas in our inland East Bay, Tri-Valley and south of San Jose locations.

The season of summer is still three weeks away, but it will feel a lot summer here this weekend.

High pressure will boost northerly to slightly offshore wind at times which will bring warming, drying air aloft down to sea level. The hottest day will be Saturday.

This ramping up of temps will begin to ease some on Sunday as a developing sea breeze will bring a noticeable drop in temps near the coastline and inner bay, but perhaps one more day of 80s to lower 90s inland.

As the marine layer continues deepening into Monday some areas of mist and drizzle are possible by morning with highs down about 10-20 degrees from our weekend highs. Temps should stay in the more comfortable 60s-80s range for most of the week until another warmup arrives starting Friday into next weekend.

Winds are expected in the 20 mph region which will increase fire danger throughout the weekend.

Marin County firefighters are scheduled to assess wildfire risks at homes throughout the county this weekend. Today and on Sunday, engine crews supported by 60 seasonal firefighters will conduct a defensible space stand down effort in San Geronimo Valley, Throckmorton Ridge, Inverness Park, Marin City, Hicks Valley and Tomales, officials said.

Fire personnel will make recommendations to homeowners in those areas about how to better protect their homes from a wild land fire, officials said. Some suggestions include creating a defensible space and structural hardening, in order to make a home more resistant to embers, according to officials. With the 2013 fire season current, firefighters are urging homeowners to create defensible space to allow a safe place to live.
