Beach Bonfires Temporarily Prohibited at San Francisco's Ocean Beach

Recreational beach fires will not be allowed at San Francisco's Ocean Beach from Nov. 1 until the end of February, according to the National Park Service.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area's first "No-Burn" season coincides with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's winter Spare the Air season.

During the months of November through February, particulate matter pollution from wood burning and other sources can reach unhealthy levels in the Bay Area, park officials said.

The No-Burn season is part of the park service's Ocean Beach Fire Program, which went into effect April 1 and also included the addition of four new fire pits to the beach for use during the burning season.
