Berkeley Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In: Police

The suspect in a shooting in West Berkeley late Tuesday morning has turned himself in, according to police.

The shooting occurred near the corner of San Pablo Avenue and Delaware Street at 11:33 a.m. Tuesday, police Sgt. Andrew Frankel said.

Officers who responded to the scene found a 28-year-old man who had been hit by gunfire and he was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he is in critical condition, Frankel said.

Berkeley police said they aren't releasing the suspect's name at this time pending their ongoing investigation.

At about 1 a.m. Wednesday, a man and woman were shot in the area of Prince and Tremont streets, near the Ashby BART station in Berkeley, and were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

Frankel said the shooting doesn't appear to be random but police don't think it is connected to the shooting in West Berkeley on Tuesday morning.
