Body Found in Stairwell Behind San Francisco Bloomingdale's

The body of a 28-year-old man was found at the Westfield San Francisco Centre mall Wednesday morning, and the San Francisco medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide, a police spokeswoman said.

The victim was identified as San Francisco resident Frank Galicia.

Police received a call at 10:15 a.m. reporting a body found inside the mall at 865 Market St., police Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

NBC Bay Area was able to confirm from an officer on scene that the body was found in a stairwell behind Bloomingdale's.

Police have not identified the victim or provided information about how the person died. They have also not said if they have a suspect.

Westfield mall officials said only that they are cooperating with the investigation. A spokesman said the shopping center remained open and was operating normally Wednesday night.

People who work at Bloomingdales say they received an email from management saying the homicide does not involve a Bloomingdales employee and advised them not to talk about the incident.

Police are reviewing securty camera footage from a number of cameras around the mall.

Mall employees are saying they are avoiding stairwells and paring up when they need to go outside the mall.
