Body Found Near San Jose Creek Being Investigated As Possible Homicide: Police

A body found near a creek in San Jose Friday morning is being investigated as a possible homicide, according to police.

The body was found in thick brush by a transient along the banks of Penitencia Creek, near Independence High School.

"I was down here walking my dog and I see the body there," said Joseph, who did not provide a last name.

Joseph said the victim did not appear to be homeless.

Sources tell NBC Bay Area the victim was likely killed somewhere else and the killer dumped his body near the creek. Police will likely look at surveillance video from homes around the crime scene, trying to figure out who may have dumped the body.

Investigators also took Joseph downtown as a witness to gather more information on who the possible killer might be.

Officers first responded to the report of a body found by a creek in the 1800 block of Pine Hallow Circle shortly after 11 a.m., police Officer Albert Morales said.

A preliminary investigation indicated the body was of a man, Morales said.
