47-Acre Brush Fire Destroys 2 Buildings in East San Jose Foothills

A brush fire that ripped through an East San Jose hillside Monday afternoon destroyed a mobile home and cottage, firefighters said.

The blaze scorched 47 acres near Aborn Road and Edwards Ranch.

Resident Mimi Nguyen watched her cottage burn. Firefighters said her dog, Harvey, died in the blaze.

"That's my life right there that just got burned," Nguyen said.

Firefighters on Monday afternoon battled a brush fire that burned structures and threatened homes in the East San Jose foothills.

Firefighters said the so-called Aborn Fire started around 11 a.m. and quickly spread, threatening about a dozen homes.

The fire also burned power poles.

Neighbors said Monday's blaze is the third fire on the hill in about 25 years, including an arson fire in 1991.

An investigation is ongoing.
