Wind-Whipped Nelson Fire Prompts Evacuations in Fairfield, Vacaville

A fast-moving brush fire burned close to homes Friday in Solano County, prompting evacuations in Fairfield and Vacaville.

The wind-whipped Nelson Fire, just east of Interstate 80, charred 2,162 acres. The blaze was 95 percent contained Saturday night.

Around 10 p.m., some residents were able to return home after several evacuation orders were lifted. No injuries have been reported.

The blaze destroyed one residential structure and threatened 10 other.

Fairfield High School is serving as an evacuation center.

In Vacaville, evacuations were lifted around 8:30 p.m. The California Medical Facility was also placed under a shelter-in-place order due to the fire.
