Firefighters on Sunday battled a brush fire that ignited off of Interstate 580 in Castro Valley, according to fire officials.
The blaze near Palo Verde Road scorched 48 acres before firefighters were able to corral the flames, according to fire officials. Within a few hours after starting, the fire was declared 100 percent contained.
It is not clear at this time what sparked the blaze.
