Midway Fire: All I-580 lanes reopened near Tracy, 261 acres burned

The blaze broke out in the area of Midway and Patterson Pass roads on the border of Alameda and San Joaquin counties

A brush fire scorched over 250 acres outside Tracy Thursday afternoon and triggered the closure of Interstate 580.

The Midway Fire broke out just before 3 p.m. in the area of Midway and Patterson Pass roads on the border of Alameda and San Joaquin counties. Cal Fire said 261 acres had burned and the blaze was 85% contained, with forward progress stopped.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 580 between Patterson Pass Road and Interstate 205 were shut down for hours due to the fire, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP had originally advised motorists to avoid I-580 while crews responded to the blaze.

Around 8:40 p.m., all lanes were reopened, per the CHP.
