Bus Shuttles Will Replace SF's Cable Car Lines for 10 Days in September

To accommodate repair work to San Francisco's cable cars, shuttle buses will substitute all cable car lines for ten days in the month of September.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will run bus shuttles instead of the Powell-Hyde, Powell-Mason and California cable car lines for 10 days starting Sept. 13 as part of a project to refurbish the gearboxes that power the cable car system.

The gearboxes have been in use since 1984, according to the agency.

For tourists and others wanting to ride vintage vehicles during the suspension of cable car service, the F Market & Wharves streetcar line will be in operation, according to the agency.

Bus fare will cost the usual $3 if paid with cash or $2.50 if paid using Clipper Card or MuniMobile.
