Buster Posey, Kristi Yamaguchi, Vince Neil & 24-Hour Fitness Founder on New Water Waster List

The East Bay Municipal Utility District's latest list of water guzzlers in the East Bay features some big names, including San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, rapper E-40, former Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil and 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov.

Billy Beane, the Oakland A's executive vice president of baseball operations, made another appearance on the list, which is partial and only represents customers in violation who were billed from Oct. 24 to Nov. 20. EBMUD listed a total of 1,802 violations in this time period.

Most of those violations, 580 of them, occurred in Danville. There were about 315 in Lafayette and just under 300 in Orinda.

EBMUD spokesperson Andrea Pook said 360 people on the list were repeat offenders. "Two-thirds of them have cut back their water use — some by 50 to 60 percent. One person has reduced by 76 percent," she said.

"A majority of our customers are doing a good job of cutting back and for those who have room to do better, we are here to assist," Pook said. "The drought is not over for us and it’s important to continue to save water during this historic drought — don’t be tempted by the rain." [[338556102, C]]

Mastrov, a Lafayette resident, came in second behind St. Moritz Dorf LLC, a private company with an Alamo property, for most water use on this list, which doesn't account for those contesting their fines.

St. Moritz Dorf consumed the equivalent of 11,182 gallons of water per day, while Mastrov used a 10,547-gallon daily average, according to EBMUD records.

Posey, who lives in Lafayette, and Neil, of Danville, were much lower on the list at 3,390 gallons a day and 2,294 gallons, respectively.

Yamaguchi also made an appearance on the records. There was an average daily 1,670-gallon use reported at her Alamo residence.

No one on the list topped the 12,579 gallons per day drained at the Danville home of George Kirkland, a former Chevron executive, during a previous two-month billing cycle between July and August.

Kirkland reappeared on this latest list and was still in the top 10 with a reported use of 6,408 gallons of water per day.

Beane, a Danville resident who had the third-highest total usage in that prior list, was under Kirkland. Beane used 3,565 gallons per day this time, compared to a previous 5,996-gallon average.

Amount of water used by some other notables on the list over a two-month billing cycle:

  • Former Oakland Raiders Maurice Jones-Drew: 252,076 gallons
  • E-40 AKA 40 Water: 219,164 gallons
  • Catherine Schwab, daughter of Charles Schwab: 314,908 gallons
  • Roy Jacuzzi of the spa-inventing Jacuzzi family: 156,332 gallons
