Cal Students Rally to Stop Skirt Creeper

Protest called in wake of further sexual assaults near UC Berkeley campus

A "Skirt Rally" was held at Upper Sproul Plaza on the University of California Berkeley campus Wednesday to protest an ongoing series of sexual assaults against women.

Nineteen attacks against women have occurred since last fall, with the latest two happening just last weekend.

The assaults generally happen in the early morning hours south of campus to women walking home from sorority and fraternity parties.

The attacker is described as being a white male with dark hair in his 20s or 30s, standing around 5' 10" and weighing around 170 to 190 pounds.

According to reports, the man approaches women from behind and reaches underneath their clothing in an effort to fondle them.

Previously he has attacked women wearing skirts or dresses, but his M.O. changed in the most recent attacks.

The attacker should hope to be found and arrested by police -- local bloggers have argued, presumably in jest, for rougher justice.

"Seriously, someone needs to mace this guy," suggested the Daily Clog

"[J]ust shooting and killing him would be no great loss," SFist mused.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Three dozen women and a man in a skirt attended the rally on Wednesday afternoon. Participants recited poetry and talked abhout what has been happening around campus.

One victim, who simply identified herself as Morgan stepped said, "I just hope this man gets caught and I hope it doesn't happen anymore. And I hope this rally lets him know that we are all looking for him and it's not okay for him to do be doing what he has been doing to any of us."

Jackson West wonders why, with all the free porn on the Web, this guy even leaves his bedroom.
