System Failure Leaves DMV Cutomers Without Services

DMV officials expect the issue to be resolved Wednesday morning.

Those who took their days off for appointments at the Department of Motor Vehicles had an unpleasant surprise Tuesday, as offices around the Bay Area worked to recover from a hardware failure causing the shut down of both the primary and backup systems.

Staff was on hand to answer questions and reschedule missed appointments, however those at the San Mateo DMV say rescheduled appointments were not available until after the start of the year.

DMV Representative Jessica Gonzalez said they anticipate the issue will be resolved by Wednesday morning.

While Gonzalez said there is no way to contact those that had scheduled appointments Tuesday, they are posting updates on social media and website pages.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the 10 offices in the Bay Area that have working systems include Novato, Vallejo, Pittsburg, Walnut Creek, Oakland Coliseum, Pleasanton, San Jose, Redwood City, Corte Madera, and Los Gatos.

All offices are still conducting drive tests at this time.
