Cell Phone, Bicycle Theft and Assault at BART Stations

Cell phones and a bicycle were stolen and an assault took place at three different BART stations in the Bay Area Saturday, according to police at the agency.

A man reported that his black 20-speed bicycle was stolen while chain-locked at bike racks in the West Oakland station between 7 a.m. and 10:42 a.m. Saturday, BART police said.

In a separate incident at 7:32 p.m., Ryan Benjamin, 36, of San Francisco, was arrested at the MacArthur station in Oakland on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Benjamin allegedly threw a metal pipe at a man, hitting him in the head and injuring him, police said.

Emergency medical service workers responded, but the man declined treatment, police said.

The second theft occurred shortly after 11 p.m. A man reported that a group of six young people snatched his two iPhones on a Warm Springs-bound train at the Lake Merritt station, police said.

BART police did not provide a description for suspects in either of the thefts.
