A man was taken into custody late Friday night in a Concord residential neighborhood with the help of a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew, Concord police said tonight.
Officers saw a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk in the area of Greenbush Court, just east of Mountain View Elementary School, about 10 p.m., said Concord police Lt. Kristen Thoms.
The suspect, a 36-year-old man, ran when police approached him. Thoms stressed tonight that the man was not a suspected "peeping Tom," as he was described in a social media post today. Police said riding the bicycle on the sidewalk was a vehicle code violation, and that they thought they saw the man discard drug paraphernalia, which Thoms said was not found.
The CHP helicopter, which at that point was flying over Walnut Creek, was called to north central Concord about 10:14 p.m. in an attempt to find the suspect. The suspect was located almost immediately, hiding next to a fence, by the helicopter crew, Thoms said. He was arrested by Concord police moments later without incident, said Thoms.
The man was discovered to have an outstanding warrant for a probation violation. He was taken to the County Jail in Martinez.
