CHP Issues Sig-Alert for Interstate 880 in Oakland for Repairs

A portion of concrete slab on southbound Interstate 880 in Oakland is broken, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down lanes and issue a Sig-alert late Tuesday.

The concrete slab is broken in three places, according to the CHP. Crews poured cement in the cracks and let the cement set, which was completed by 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, when the highway reopened.

The incident was first reported as a sink-hole or pot-hole in the third lane of southbound 880 between Broadway and Oak Street at roughly 4:50 p.m.

A Sig-alert was issued at 6:26 p.m. when the CHP closed three lanes of the roadway and advised motorists to use alternate routes like Interstate Highway 580.
