CHP Officer Seriously Injured in 3-Vehicle Collision on I-680 in San Ramon

Northbound lanes were temporarily blocked late Thursday on Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon after a three-vehicle collision that left a California Highway Patrol officer with serious injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said officers responded to a report of a three-vehicle collision at 5:20 p.m. on I-680 near the Crow Canyon Road off-ramp.

Van Eckhardt said the officer, who was riding a motorcycle, was involved in the crash with a white van and a third vehicle.

The CHP held traffic on all northbound lanes to allow the helicopter to land. One lane has since reopened but others remain closed and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

The officer was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. All lanes reopened around 7:45 p.m.
