CHP Investigating Shooting on Eastbound I-80 in Vallejo

A man was shot during the Friday evening commute, forcing California Highway Patrol officers to issue a Sig-alert and shut down eastbound Interstate 80 at American Canyon Road.

The victim, a Vallejo resident in his 20s, was struck by a bullet in the torso around 5:06 p.m., but the wound is not believed to be life-threatening, according to the CHP.

The man crashed his Mercedez Benz after being shot, but did not sustain any injuries then, the CHP said.

Lanes remained closed while officers collected evidence, but traffic was allowed through by 6:20 p.m., the CHP said. Just before 7 p.m., however, the highway was shut again — this time for further investigation. The CHP reported on Twitter around 10:45 p.m. that all lanes of the highway were open and the scene had been cleared.

No further details, including a suspect description and motive, were immediately available.
