Christmas Eve Outage: Hundreds Lose Power in San Jose After Garbage Truck Hits Pole

About 850 homes were without power on Christmas Eve in East San Jose after a garbage truck struck a utility pole, bringing down power lines earlier Thursday, according to PG&E officials.

Around 3:02 p.m., the garbage truck brought down the power lines near Story Road and Feller Avenue, initially leaving about 1,200 customers without power, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

The outage was affecting residents in the city's Alum Rock neighborhood, near Alum Rock and Fleming avenues.

PG&E crews were working on the downed power lines and hoped to restore service to all customers by about 9 p.m., according to Guidi.
