Flaming Tree Ruins Christmas for Bay Area Family

Firefighters douse holiday inferno

Firefighters battled a fire involving a Christmas tree at a home in Rohnert Park Wednesday night, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

The fire was reported at about 11:20 p.m. at a home on Avram Avenue, according to fire Capt. Wulff Reinhold, who said the fire was under control within an hour.

A woman and her two children were inside her home when the mother heard a crackling sound, discovered the fire, and fled the home with the children, Reinhold said.

The victims were checked for smoke inhalation but were not transported to a local hospital, according to Reinhold, who said no firefighters were injured either.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but a preliminary investigation revealed that the Christmas tree was involved in the blaze somehow, Reinhold said.

There was smoke damage throughout the house and fire damage in the room containing the tree, but a full damage estimate has not been completed, according to Reinhold.
