A man who was fatally struck by a garbage truck while on a work crew for San Francisco's Human Services Agency in the city's Bayview District this morning has been identified.
The deceased man has been identified as 52-year-old San Francisco resident Alvin Andrews, according to the medical examiner's office.
Andrews was a member of a work crew overseen by the city's Human Services Agency, Gordon said.
Police and fire officials received a report shortly after 9 a.m. about a person struck and injured by a San Francisco Department of Public Works truck near the intersection of Jerrold Avenue and Quint Street, SFDPW spokeswoman Rachel Gordon said.
The truck was out on a routine pickup route for illegal dumping when the driver accidentally ran over and killed a member of the crew, Gordon said.
He died at the scene and the medical examiner's office responded, San Francisco fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
The truck driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating in the investigation, according to Gordon.
The cause of the fatal collision remains under investigation by the San Francisco Police Department, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the city's Department of Public Works, Gordon said.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee asked for a moment of silence on behalf of Andrews' death during a meeting of the city's disaster council Thursday regarding the recent earthquake.
The Mayor released a statement this afternoon referring to Andrews' death as a tragedy and extending his condolences to Andrews' family.
"The safety of our workforce is our highest priority, and this incident will be thoroughly investigated," Lee said.
