Clayton Cops Police Trails with Electric Motorcycle

The Clayton police department has a new toy: a Zero electric motorcycle.

Sgt. Jason Shaw says the new bike will enable his department to better patrol the miles of trails that wind around the tiny Contra Costa town at the foot of Mount Diablo without disturbing neighbors or wildlife.

The Tesoro Foundation provided about $22,000 to purchase the Zero 2016 DSP which comes complete with lights and sirens for police work.

The bike can go about 100 miles on one 8-hour charge, which is more than enough for traffic and trail duty, Shaw says.
