Contra Costa County Animal Services Offering Reduced Fees for Pets

To help reduce shelter populations, Contra Costa Animal Services is offering cheaper adoptions of pets from its shelters in Martinez and Pinole for the next couple of weeks.

Between fees for spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, vaccination, adoption and licensing, the cost of an adoption can run as high as $264, department spokesman Steve Burdo said.

However, from today through March 17, the adoption fee for all animals at the shelters will be $25, which does not include the $20 annual cost to license the animal.

On March 17, Contra Costa Animal Services will also be hosting its eight annual "St. Pitty's Day" event that features free adoptions of all pit bull and other "bully" breeds of dogs.

The Martinez shelter is located at 4800 Imhoff Place, while the Pinole one is at 910 San Pablo Ave.
