Coroner Examining San Jose State Student's Death

The president of San Jose State University says the coroner is investigating the death of a college freshman who was found in his dorm room.

University President Mohammad Qayoumi sent a message to San Jose State faculty, staff and students on Monday notifying them of Brenden Tiggs' death. The 18-year-old kinesiology major's body was found on Sunday by campus police officers who had been summoned by student advisers at Joe West Hall.

Qayoumi says more details will be released once the coroner's investigation is finished.

A campus vigil in Tiggs' memory was scheduled for Monday night.

San Jose State still is recovering from the revelation last fall that four students allegedly abused a black roommate with racial slurs, putting a bicycle lock on his neck and hanging a Confederate flag in their dorm suite.
