Cyclist Struck on Highway 9 in Saratoga

A hit and run driver injured a competitive cyclist Sunday evening as she road along Highway 9 in Saratoga.

Ashley Jackson, 24, is a member of the Alto Velo cycling team.  She was riding with her coach and her boyfriend around 5:30 p.m. when a late-model silver BMW drove up from behind and struck her.

Jackson's boyfriend, David Nelson said the car's mirror clipped Jackson and knocked her to the ground.  She suffered head trauma including bleeding into her brain. She is at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. Nelson suffered minor injuries.

Jackson’s condition has drastically improved since the accident and her condition has been upgraded. She remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Nelson said the driver slowed down for a second but then sped away.  He was also clipped by the mirror, but was not seriously hurt.

Police are now searching for the driver.
