Law enforcement officials were investigating an officer involved shooting that left one suspect dead in Danville late Saturday morning, according to Danville officials.
Witnesses at the scene said they heard multiple shots fired when the incident occurred around 11:03 a.m. on Diablo Road at Front Street after police responded to a report of a suspicious person nearby.
The suspect fled Cottage Lane and Laurel Drive when officers arrived on the scene, leading officers to follow on a pursuit to Diablo Road where the suspect attempted to run over an officer who fired his weapon at the vehicle, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Laudemer Arboleda of Newark, later died from his injuries at a local hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The officer, later identified as Deputy Sheriff Andrew Hall, sustained a minor injury, according to the sheriff's office. Hall is a five-year veteran contracted to the town of Danville.
Video posted on SnapChat showed officers descending on a vehicle that appeared to have been involved in a crash at Diablo Road and W El Pintado.
"This incident is being jointly investigated by the Danville Police Department, Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff, and D.A.'s Office," Contra Consta County Sheriff's Office said.
