Disabled Man Robbed, Assaulted Near Los Lagos Golf Course in San Jose

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man suspected of assaulting and robbing a disabled man in San Jose in September.

The Sept. 5 incident, captured on security camera footage released Monday by San Jose police, started shortly after 5 p.m.

The recording shows the suspect riding past the victim on a bicycle and knocking him to the ground in the 2600 block of Tuers Road near the Los Lagos Golf Course.

The suspect then circled back and got off the bike, helped the man to his feet and talked with him briefly. The victim, who uses a cellphone to communicate, took out his phone, which the suspect then grabbed.

The victim reached for his phone and the suspect kicked him, knocking him to the ground. The suspect fled south on Tuers Road riding a red mountain bike, according to police.

"There's a lot of people that commit crimes, but they know where to draw the line," Sgt. Enrique Garcia said. "Typically they don't target innocent handicapped people."

The suspect is described as a man between 16 and 25 years old who was wearing a dark beanie cap, dark shirt, gray sweatpants and dark shoes.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Jose police Detective George Constantin at 408-277-4166.
